Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of the High Court in Banjul has ordered the National Agency for Legal Aid (NALA) to provide legal representation to Salieu Bah, who is facing two charges—robbery and assault.

The accused person, Salieu Bah, is charged with two counts of robbery and assault, contrary to Sections 247 and 198 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025.

In his ruling on Tuesday, Jaiteh said: “The allegation of robbery is a serious one, and the Accused has indicated that he cannot afford the services of a legal practitioner.”

“Pursuant to Section 24(3) of the 1997 Constitution of The Republic of The Gambia, an accused person is entitled to legal representation of his or her choice, and where the person cannot afford such representation, the State is obliged to provide legal aid.”

“Accordingly, I hereby order that, pursuant to Section 24(3) of the Constitution, the National Agency for Legal Aid (NALA) shall provide legal representation for the Accused in this matter.”

“The Principal Registrar of the High Court is directed to transmit the Bill of Indictment to the National Agency for Legal Aid for necessary action.”

The case was then adjourned to the 11th of November, 2025, for plea taking.
