The Mayor of the Kanifing Municplaity Council, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, has stated that he had a vision to trigger changes and accord the masses development, further adding that was the driving behind his decision to involve in politics.

He made the disclosure in an interview with eminent Senegalese media entity Seneweb TV.

Facing the Senegalese journalist in their studio, Bensouda said: “When I was stepping into politics, I had a vision to bring about changes and development in my community, that is Serrekunda, Kanifing Municipality, where I was born and grow, that would satisfy the people and improve the quality of life. When I was becoming mayor, I was thirty. I am in my second term, and at this time I am thirty-seven.

Mayor Bensouda cited  Jammeh’s dictatorship as his inspiration, as he stated that he wanted to take out dictatorship and bring about hope among the youth, further highlighting that he was not ready to continue staring but rather get himself involved in the political “combat”.

“That is what got me involved into politics. When I was getting into it in 2018, it was the first time, I was doing politics.

Addionally, the KM Mayor also spoke about his party (United Democratic Party) leader Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, whom he said has been active in the political landscape since the 1980s.

Talib also relayed to the Senegalese audience that President Adama Barrow was a member of the UDP before breaking away to form his National People’s Party (NPP). He underscored differences in political ideology as the reason for the breakaway or split, as the inquisitive journalist pressed on to find answers surrounding the emergence of the political rivalry.

“Now we are opposing him,” Bensouda said. “Just like relationship between opposition and government always is; it is usually something that would not be smooth, because the way we want our country to be administered, for it to be straightforward and be there for the people, we have not seen them running it that way.

“We are opposing them to place The Gambia in a secure situation, a situation in which the masses shall see themselves as part and the progress that the people want from their government is guaranteed. That is our stance.”
