Senegalese President Diomaye Faye has tried to be philosophical in addressing executive members of the ruling party PASTEF, who visited him on Tuesday at State House in Dakar after two weeks of strained relations between him and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.

In responding to the question of whether he would contest in the 2029 elections in Senegal, the President said: "I don’t know if it will find me in this world or not."

According to media reports, President Faye maintained his decision on his appointment of Aminata Toure to be National Coordinator of Diomaye Presidency, and also insisted on keeping Abdourahmane Diouf, Minister for Environment, who was accused of corruption, in the cabinet.

Sonko recommended the sacking of these two personalities for embezzlement of Government funds.

But Faye also stated that Aminata Toure was framed by ex-president Macky Sall regarding the national or public account, due to political issues.

Asked by his party members if he would contest in the 2029 Elections, President Faye said: "I don’t know if it will find me in this world or not."

He also said: "I will always maintain my cordial relations with Sonko, and I believe Sonko too will do the same."

The Senegalese media further reported that on Monday, 300 mayors; members of the Association of Senegalese Mayors and more than 100 political leaders have given their support to President Faye.

Prime Minister Sonko resumed work on Tuesday after a 2-week leave and attended the cabinet meeting.
