TAAMO Card is a transport system that allows customers of GTSC to effortlessly pay for their fares using a secure and user-friendly electronic card, eliminating the need for cash transactions.
It enables passengers to enjoy the convenience of cashless transportation services.
The GTSC chair compared the TAAMO Card, which was launched on Wednesday as a replica of the UK Oyster Card, saying that the TAAMO Card is much more advanced than that of the Oyster Card Transport System for London.
"No country develops without effective ground transportation. If you do basic history in high school, you would know that the Savanna region was more developed than the Rain Forest because of ease of communication. Europe developed simply because their strategy was to make sure they have a robust and an effective ground transportation which is a prerequisite for the development of any country; and GTSC is here to make that happens," he said.
Mr. Malang also dwelled on the National Development Plan (NDP3) and modernising agriculture, explaining that it is meant to work and maintain busses to aid in transporting agric products within and out of the country.
He also shed light on GTSC ownership, saying, it’s a private company that's under the management of Social Security & Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC).
According to Mr Malang, this institution and others under SSHFC are playing a major role towards the development of the country by providing employment, delivering top-notch services and contributing to the growth of the Gambia.
He expressed gratitude to TK Motors and Muhammed Jah of Experts Motors for their sponsorship and the successful implementation of GTSC TAMMO project. He also thanked the government of The Gambia for single handedly donating 70 buses to GTSC, through public private partnership and successfully implementing the TAAMO Card project.
