Mr. Darboe also disclosed that the government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs has tasked the GRA to collect D19 billion revenue in 2024.
GRA boss Mr. Darboe, however did not disclose how much revenue has been generated from January to date 2023, but he was quick to predict the outcome by end of December.
“Come rain, come shine, whatever the case may be, with the grace of the Almighty God, GRA will surpass its revenue target for 2023,” he said,” while hailing the commitment of GRA staff and board of directors for providing good policy direction.”
Speaking during a surprise visit to senior staff of GRA by the Board on Tuesday 5 December 2023, Mr. Darboe advised and reminded the senior staff about the challenges that lie ahead, while urging all GRA staff to redouble their efforts and fasten their belts.
He underlined that GRA would not let the government down as far as revenue collection is concerned.
He called for more team spirit, cooperation and commitment, saying the sky is the limit. “The management and Board of GRA will do everything humanly possible to support GRA staff to enable them effectively and efficiently deliver to expectation,” he assured.
For her part, chair of the GRA Board, Madam Lucy Faye Jagne, commended the staff and management of GRA particularly the leadership for living up to expectation every year in terms of revenue collection.
She said the target given to GRA is a trust and commitment of GRA towards national development.
She advised the GRA staff to always portray the good image of GRA and redouble their efforts as there are challenges ahead in 2024. She further urged them to continue working towards supporting each other and learn more about the revenue laws, and other services governing GRA.
Meanwhile, the GRA board and senior management are expected to embark on a nationwide tour to all GRA outlets. The objective is to visit their staff at various stations, interact with them, get first- hand information on their challenges, constraints, and some of the development achieved through their station managers.
The delegation will be led by the GRA Board Chair Madam Lucy Faye, accompanied by the Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe and Deputy Commissioner General and Head of Domestic Taxes Essa Jallow among other directors.
