The money, according to officials, is meant to support the former deputy governor and his youth organisation to embark on a massive sensitisation campaign to fight Kush in the country.
Musa Susso, former deputy governor of West Coast Region and his Youths Dialogue Kick Kush Out of The Gambia-Chapter, will Saturday begin a sensitisation campaign in the country’s North Bank Region starting from Barra and Essau.
The Youth Dialogue is dedicated to drug and illicit substances sensitisation and prevention. The sensitisation tour aims to educate communities across the North Bank Region, Barra, and Essau about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of preventive measures.
Susso, who was speaking to The Point in an interview on the significance of fighting the deadly substance in the country, added: “I am so much concerned about the rising number of young Gambians losing their lives to the deadly Kush. Besides, most of these young people lack the knowledge of the dangers of the deadly drug.
“Therefore, we want to embark on a massive campaign in the North Bank Region in order to sensitise inhabitants of the NBR on the dangers of using these substances. This is the affected area in the country that begins to lose its young people as a result of Kush abuse."
The former WCR deputy governor also commended Jawara for the gesture, saying: “Supporting youth organisations to embark on such sensitisation is worthy as it will go a long way towards reducing the use of the drug in the country. Again, this clearly indicates that he [Jawara] has the interest and development of young people of this country at his heart.”
The Chief Executive Officer of the GACH Global Group, Dr Abubakary Jawara, expressed delight in the youth initiative, saying it is crucial to combat the rising instances of drug misuse and promote a healthier, safer society.
Jawara calls for concerted efforts from all Gambians to fight hard t0 arrest the menace of Kush in the country, saying: “We are committed to supporting any initiative that is geared towards the development of young people in the country and also supporting any initiative that is geared towards fighting issues that affect young people in the country. We want the country to be a safe zone for the young people.”
