Known for its humanitarian gesture in the country and beyond, GACH Global yesterday presented a cheque for D500,000 (five hundred thousand dalasis) to the Sanyang Village Development Committee.

The gesture, officials said is part of the mining company's Transformative Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative – designed to give back to the community where it is intervening.

The generous gesture, earmarked to tackle challenges confronting the women in the horticulture scheme and the local hospital, resonated profoundly with the community, infusing it with a renewed sense of hope and gratitude.

Mafugi Ceesay, the communications coordinator of GACH Mining Company, outlined the company's “deep commitment” to the welfare of the community.

He underscored the importance of the gesture, saying it is meant to address the genuine concerns expressed by the women engaged in the horticulture scheme and the local hospital.

Alkalo Lamin Jabang, who welcomed the GACH team, expressed gratitude on behalf of the council of elders, women leaders to the entire GACH Management.

Amadou Manneh, GACH Company’s site manager, said: “This act of benevolence is an integral facet of the company's corporate social responsibility, aimed at fostering community ownership of the mining enterprise.”

“The gesture was superseded by a comprehensive assessment conducted at the horticulture scheme, bringing to light the distressing existence of six non-functional boreholes out of which GACH Mining Company took affirmative action, supporting and fixing four boreholes to mitigate the water-related challenges plaguing the community,” he said

Jonsaba Sillah, the chairperson of the Village Development Committee, commended GACH for its responsiveness to community’s concerns. She revealed that the company also promised to set up an office complex for the Village Development Committee as a tangible embodiment of GACH’s unwavering commitment to Sanyang.

Ms. Sillah extended heartfelt gratitude to GACH for its dedication and determination to make a positive impact within the community.

Abdou Colley, the National Assembly Member for Kombo South, underscored the significance of supporting the hospital and providing essential facilities for the horticulture scheme.

He emphasised that health and food security constitute the bedrock of livelihood, while commending GACH for aligning its efforts with the government's agenda.

Honorable Colley pledged to facilitate a collaborative platform, sharing the community’s 5-year Village Development Plan with GACH during an upcoming forum.

Omar Baldeh, the officer in charge of Sanyang Hospital, expressed delight over the “timely assistance” from GACH Company.

He hailed the Village Development Committee for their relentless commitment to resource mobilisation and their fruitful partnership with GACH Mining Company, while further appealing for sustained support and additional development initiatives to fortify the community's progress.
