Forestry Dept registers D25M revenue

The Department of Forestry has revealed that it has registered a staggering sum of D25,857,835 revenue in 2025 compared to 2024’s 8.1 million dalasis.

According to the Department of Forestry, it has registered major achievements at the Bijilo Ecotourism Forest Park/ Monkey Park where they successfully recorded a total of 40,024 visitors comprising 21,386 non-resident (tourist) visitors and 18,638 resident (local) visitors, demonstrating strong domestic and international interest in the park throughout 2025.

In its mobility support, the Department revealed that it has successfully purchased 10 New DT Motor Bikes for their field staff in 2025 through National Forestry Fund (NFF).

The Department further revealed that in partnership with FAO, it has bought another 12 New DT Motor Bike for Department staff, making their work easy for them during 2025 forestry century inventory.

The Department added four new units created in the Forestry Department 2025, this includes the Forestry Act Enforcement Operation Unit, Information and Data Management Unit, Nursery Management Unit, Urban Forestry offices in KMC and BJL and Great Green World Secretarial

The main achievements at the National Level in 2025 include the establishment of Urban Forest Offices. These Urban Forest Offices were successfully established within KMC and BCC, marking a major step forward in integrating urban forestry into city planning and environmental management.

They outlined that these offices are now coordinating tree planting, green space protection, and urban biodiversity initiatives to improve climate resilience in rapidly growing urban centres.

They also  indicated that the Forestry Department has identified 60 community forests in The Gambia with each region registering 10.

They said that the 10 Community Forests identified in each region were nationally recognised and awarded for their outstanding performance in sustainable forest management, conservation practices, and community engagement.

These awards highlighted best practices in local forest governance, restoration efforts, and livelihood support, encouraging peer learning and replication of successful models nationwide.
