Speaking at the award presentation which was held at the National Assembly, the country’s Speaker Fabakary Tombong Jatta thanked MOHA for awarding deputy Speaker Njie, saying: “Hon. Seedy Njie is a committed individual whose dedication to nation’s building can’t be overemphasised.”
He added: “Last year he (Deputy Speaker Njie) was presented with an award as the ‘African Lawmaker of the Year’. I want to say that it is a pride to us as an institution. Again, this time also, we are all surprised with another international award dubbed as the Men of Honour Award. It is a well-deserved award to us as lawmakers and by extension the country at large.
“Almost all the qualities that are mentioned by MOHA are embedded in Hon. Seedy Njie. I have worked with him for many years and I recognise and appreciate his potential. He is a youth and one of the biggest qualities he has is humility. He is critical minded and he is always ready to serve the country.”
In receiving the award, Deputy Speaker Njie thanked MOHA for choosing him as part of the top 40 distinguished Men of Honour, adding: “This means a lot to me and it also challenges me to redouble my efforts towards the development of this great country of ours. I equally want to dedicate this award to President Barrow, the National Assembly and the entire Gambian population.”
The award, he added, couldn’t have been possible without the support of President Barrow, adding: “Be assured that I will continue to serve mother Gambia. I will continue to serve this country wherever I am. We have a task as a party in government and as members of the National Assembly that is the social contract that President Barrow and us have for Gambian people that is to deliver an unprecedented social economic development in tandem with all it takes to govern this country with rule of law, governance and among others.”
Hon. Billay G. Tunkara - Majority Leader of the National Assembly, said: “This is an important award to not only Hon. Seedy Njie but the country at large. Regardless of our size as a country and our population, we have made it among the top 40 Men of Honour in Africa. This is also a moment to reflect and also emulate the work Hon. Seedy Njie is doing in the country.”
