Car accident injures 10 at Pacharr

A motor vehicle has reportedly knocked a group of people at the village of Pacharr in Central River Region (CRR) and seriously injured 10 people, The Point has learned.

The victims were believed to be celebrating road carnival.

Amongst those involved in the accident involved were two minors who were admitted at Brikama Ba Hospital. Five were referred to the Edward Francis Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul.

Bakary Mankajang, who witnessed the accident, told this reporter that the accident was due to speeding and also as a result of careless driving.

The driver later reported himself at Brikama Ba Police Station where he was detained while helping the police in their investigation.

 Mamadi Bayo, the younger brother to the village alkalo, also said that it happened due to careless driving, adding that it was deliberate, while calling for the driver to face the full force of the law.

Ebrahim Cham, a victim’s brother said his brother was in a serious condition, adding that road shows ought to be stopped if not it could cause many more accidents.

According to him, if people want to organise such carnivals, they should look for a safer place and avoid marching on the high way.

‘’I urge the police to stop giving out permit to road carnivals, they should be condemned,” he added.
