Alleged notorious fraudster granted D1M bail

Ebrima Kalilu Juwara, who was on trial for obtaining D975,000.00 from one Samuel Gomez, recently appeared before Magistrate A. Mendy of the Brikama Magistrates' Court. He was granted bail in the sum of one million with two Gambian sureties. 

The accused appeared on similar offences of fraudulently obtaining money from victims with a promise of giving them plots of land.

Prosecutors alleged that in the year 2023 at Brikama Fula Kunda and diverse places, the accused by false pretense and with intent to defraud induced one Samuel Gomez to deliver the sum of D 975,000.00 with the representation that he legally owned two plots of land situated at the Brikama Fula Kunda measuring 25×40 and 25×40 for sale,  which representation he knew at the time to be false. 

Inspector Fadera who appearance for the Inspector General of Police, applied for the matter to be adjourned, without raising objection to the bail of the accused person. 

The presiding magistrate granted the accused bail to in the sum of one million dalasis with 2 Gambian sureties, one of whom shall be a principal civil servant who shall deposit to an affidavit of means and shall all give their ID cards or passports to the registrar of the court while the accused  shall also tender his travelling documents to the registrar of the court. 

The case is adjourned to 13th of February, 2025.
