The Gambia’s Ambassador to Mauritania has been warmly congratulated and appreciated by some Gambian migrants rescued recently from the high seas of Nouakchott in Mauritania.

The patriotic service and support of Ambassador Faye and staff of the Gambia Embassy in Mauritania are gratified and recognised in a passionate letter addressed to the Ambassador and team and copied to the press by the rescued Gambian migrants in Nouakchott recently. The letter reads:

Dear Ambassador

Sheikh Omar Faye

I hope this message finds you in great spirits. I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude on behalf of my group members for the exceptional support and dedication you and your staff have shown to us during our stay in Mauritania, particularly following the unfortunate accident that we’ve experienced.

The unwavering commitment of your staff to our well-being has made a significant difference in our lives during this challenging time.

From the moment our information arrives at your office seeking assistance, the prompt actions and proactive measures of your staff were evident. They took it upon themselves to ensure that we were not only safe but also comfortable as we navigated through the aftermath of our ordeal. Their efforts to coordinate with local authorities and provide us with necessary resources exemplify true leadership and compassion.

Their attention to detail and genuine concern for our welfare did not go unnoticed. They facilitated access to medical care, arranged accommodations, and even help us connect with our families and loved one’s during a period filled with uncertainties. It is rare to encounter someone who embodies such a strong sense of duty and empathy, and for that, we are incredibly grateful to Alhamdulillah.

Moreover, their ability to maintain open lines of communication allowed us to feel supported every step of the way.

Their reassurance and guidance provided us with comfort when we needed it most, reminding us that we were not alone in facing these difficulties.

As we reflect on our journey thus far, it is clear that the hard work of your staff has played an instrumental role in helping us recover from hardship. We are truly grateful for their dedication and tireless efforts on our behalf. Please know that their kindness will be remembered, and we hold deep appreciation for everything they've done for us.

Thank you once again Your Excellency for being a beacon of hope during this trying time. We wish you and your staff continued success in all your endeavours as you serve both the Gambia and its citizens out there.

Warm regards

Muhammed Tambedou
