Mr. Baboucarr Suwareh made this explanation at NBR Governor’s conference hall in Kerewan on Thursday August 8, 2024 on day three of his institution’s interactive outreach to the offices of the Regional Governors and Executive Coordinators in the country.
PSC chairman told the NBR Governor and team that their visit to his office was to inform them about his institution’s mandates and also to hear from them about their achievements and constraints within their various institutions.
“PSC is mandated under section 173 of the 1997 Constitution to recruit, promote, train, discipline public officials within the public service. The Commission is also mandated to strengthen performance and facilitate effective and efficient service delivery,” PSC Chairman Suwareh informed the audience.
To achieve this task Mr. Suwareh went on, requires an outreach program to establish issues or constraints affecting or confronting public service institutions and the support they would require from the Public Service Commission.
According to Mr. Suwareh, the outreach will enable the Commission members to establish first-hand information on issues affecting civil servants within their various workplaces that would require the Commission’s involvement to address the situation.
“I’m impressed with the present of all seven chiefs in NBR, although they (Chiefs) are not directly answerable to PSC but vice-versa, they are key partner to the Governor’s office. Their present will add value to this meeting as they are the host to the civil servants within their respective districts,” said PSC Chairman.
Governor NBR, Mr. Lamin Saidykhan for his part, thanked PSC Chairman for their laudable initiative, adding that his office mandate is to represent the President and Government in the region, responsible for monitoring all government projects and programs and responsible also for connecting with other government institutions within his region in relations to issues of public interest.
Chiefs Alhaji Jagne Central Badibou, Malick Bouye Sabach Sanjally and Fabala Kinteh Lower Badibou all lauded PSC chairman and team’s visit to NBR as a landmark history.
