Confirming the development, Major Malick Sanyang, spokesperson of the GAF, stated "The GAF is working with its partners to do the needful"
Manjang fled the country in 2017 following Jammeh's shock electoral defeat, and has since been reported to be residing in neighboring countries. His names repeatedly surfaced during TRRC hearings, where victims and witnesses linked him to extrajudicial killings, torture, and other grave human rights violations.
Manjang was also allegedly named among the soldiers who participated in the killing of Deyda Hydara, a veteran journalist and the co-proprietor of The Point newspaper. He was also and AFP correspondent for 30 years.
The government, through the Ministry of Information, has confirmed the arrest of Sanna Manjang. In a press release issued on Saturday, it stated that Manjang's arrest was the result of a coordinated security operation between the authorities of The Gambia and Senegal. "The two countries have worked closely together in recent months to locate Mr Manjang, who has been a fugitive since January 2017, the statement read.
For many Gambians, particularly survivors and families of victims, his arrest marks a significant step toward justice and accountability. It is widely seen as a welcome development that could pave the way for closure and reparation for those who suffered under Jammeh's rule.
