The election a coalition flagbearer was held on Saturday, 8th August 2026 at the Metzy Residence Hotel bringing together Movements and political parties and their supporters.
This additional development emerged from a most recent Alliance formed between the UNITE and the National Unity Party.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Bensouda emphasized the significance of unity in a collective drive to effecting positive change while he thanked all coalition members and supporters.
He underlined that there will be no first-class members and second-class members of this coalition, noting that no party will be treated as more Gambian than another and there will be no movement that is asked to surrender its dignity.
He added that there will be no individual who is bigger than the agreement, but underlined that the coalition belongs to all of them.
In this acceptance, he said "I will never forget that I am also a servant of the Gambian people" as he promised to carry the coalition's flag with humility, defend the coalition's agreement and equally protect the unity of the alliance. "I will keep the door open to reconciliation and I will work with every one of you to make the coalition stronger than any individual within it," he said.
Meanwhile, the Coalition Mediation Committee (CMC) was established on 18th April 2026 to facilitate dialogue among opposition political parties and movements with the objective of presenting a single, credible flagbearer for the 2026 Presidential Election.
Over the past 113 days, the CMC conducted 15 Strategic Sessions with political parties and movements. A draft Coalition Agreement, Governing Structure, and vetting framework were developed to guide a transparent and rules-based process.
