A new youth initiative known as Yiro Youth Project was launched on 24 March 2012 at The Ocean Bay Hotel in Bakau.

The Yiro Youth Project is a company born out of the need to empower the youths and creating entrepreneurs in all the seven administrative regions of the country.

Speaking at the official launching of the project, Mr. Maurice J. Gomez, the Manager of the project, said the ultimate goal of the project is to create more youth employment, make the youth sector a more vibrant and productive sector thus contributing to the economy and to reduce poverty in the country.

“Our aim is to empower youth and creating opportunities for more youth entrepreneurships in the private sector,” he said.

For his part, Musa Mbye deputy PS, who represented the Minister of Youth and Sports, said the ministry welcomes initiatives that give particular focus on young people who are the building blocks of the nation.

He assured them of the ministry’s continued support to champion the cause of the young to turn this country into an economic power-house.

He added that putting the aspirations and needs of young people at the heart of development is a patriotic duty and his ministry will stop at nothing to ensure that the young are both enterprising and responsible in all facets of development.

Mr Mbye further revealed that the ministry will work tirelessly with organizations and companies that champion this noble course.

He said that there is a high potential for cooperation in this field, particularly networking of both governmental and non-governmental youth organizations on a regional and international scale.
