Yarambaba resident fined

One Yankuba Marong, a resident of Yarambaba was recently convicted and sentenced by Mgistrate Effim of the Brikama Magistrates' Court to a fine of D1, 000, in default to serve one month in prison for escaping from lawful custody.

He was however discharged on a charge of common assault.

Narrating the facts police prosecutor, Sub-Inspector Abdoulie Jammeh, said it happened on 19th February 2010 at Yarambaba when the complainant Nato Marong and the accused's younger sister were laundering.

He said the complainant dug a hole for water to pass through, when the accused person came and asked her to stop doing it, near their compound.

Sub-Inspector further narrated that a push and pull ensued between them and the accused subsequently slapped and hit the complainant.

He said the matter was reported to Willingara Police Station and the accused was later arrested.

According to him, while the accused person was under custody at the Willingara Police Station he escaped by jumping over the fence. He added that he was later apprehended and brought back to the police station.
