Wallidan, one of the most successful basketball teams in The Gambia Saturday evening emerged victorious in an international friendly match, as they proved supremacy over their Senegalese counterparts, Marmus De Dakar basketball team at the Manneh Sillah Memorial Basketball Court in Banjul.
The well-attended basketball game was characterised by some wonderful display of skills by both sides, but the Banjul basketball team were too good for the visitors to beat them by 51 points- 45 in a dark evening.
The Gambian side, led by one of the finest basketball stars in the country during his playing days Ousman Conateh, continued to dominate Marmus de Dakar right from the start, and in the process set up a six-point gab on top to deny their visitors any hope of winning the game.
The friendly international, according to Conateh, was organised in a bid to revive basketball, which has over the years been dormant in the country.
Conateh who was appointed as Wallidan basketball team coach five years ago, attributed his side's success to the support they received from the club management, such as Alhajie O.B Conateh, amongst other personalities, thanking them for their effort.
"This positive result will also go a very long way in trying to help the players in all aspects of the game, particularly during basketball matches, both locally and internationally," Conateh who has accumulated a wealth of experience in the basketball disclosed to Pointsport in an interview with our reporter yesterday afternoon.
