Police officer testifies in theft case

The criminal trial involving one Wandifa Marika, who is charged with stealing by clerk or servant, recently continued before Magistrate Drammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court, with the testimony of Ebou F Badjie, a police officer.

Testifying before the court, the prosecution witness, Ebou F Badjie told the court that he is a police officer attached to the fraud squad, and that he recognised the accused person.

According to him, on 18th September 2009, the accused, Wandifa Marika was brought from Karaiba Police Station to the fraud squad office, accused of stealing by clerk or servant.

He added that the accused told them that he was going to reserve his opinion.

Officer Badjie further adduced that the accused was then detained for 72 hours. He revealed that on 25th September 2009, the accused asked for a bail, to which he wrote his cautionary and voluntary statements in the presence of an independent witness, signed by all of them.

The cautionary and voluntary statements, dated 25th September 2009, and the one dated 18th September 2009 were respectively tendered as exhibits by the state counsel.

The case was adjourned to 27th July 2010.
