One Alhagie Kandeh, a taxi driver, recently testified in the alleged theft case involving Alieu William, Musa Sumareh and Mustapha Ceesay, before Magistrate Omar Jabang of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court.

Kandeh told the court that he is a taxi driver to the complainant, and whenever the complainant would buy things he used to hire him to transport his materials to his compound in Brufut.

He said on the day in question, he was on board the vehicle with PW5 going to the complainant’s other compound in Brufut from Pipeline when they spotted two boys hauling a wheelbarrow with a gate and some scraps of metals.

Designated as the sixth prosecution witness (PW6), Kandeh said: “When I spotted the gate on the wheelbarrow while on the vehicle, I told PW5 that I recognize this gate, it is Mr Touray’s gate, the complainant.”

He said he then told PW5 that they should stop the two boys and ask them where did they get the gate from and where were they taking it to, adding that they disembarked from the vehicle, approached and asked them who gave them the gate and scraps, and the 2nd and 3rd accused said they bought it from someone.

“We called the complainant to come so that we could go to the person from whom the accused person’s allegedly got it. We went round with the 2nd and 3rd accused so as to locate the person who allegedly sold it to them, but we could not find anyone,” he stated.

The accused persons were then taken to the police station at Brusubi, together with the said property found with them, and the first accused presented himself as the person who sold the items to the 2nd and 3rd accused, he said.

“I then gave a statement to that effect, the accused were arrested, detained and charged,” he stated.

The case was at that juncture adjourned for defence.
