The championship was initially set for 4 October 2015, but following a consulting meeting between the Super Nawetan Organising Committee and the Gambia Football Federation the date has been shifted to 15 October 2015.
The annual country’s community biggest football fiesta is expected to feature contestants from twelve major Nawetan zones who will be vying for the title.
The tournament attracts more spectators, more ambiance, good football and more funds than the country’s first and second division domestic leagues.
It would be recalled that Serrekunda East clinched the 2014 Super Nawetan title following their penalty shootout win over Bakau, after a goalless draw in the regulation time in the final game played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.
The twelve major zones expected to vie for the trophy are divided into two groups of six teams as follows:
Group A comprises reigning champions Serrekunda East, Brikama, Banjul, Serrekunda West, Sukuta, and Barra, Essau and Mayamba (BEM).
Group B consists of Gunjur, Manjai, Brufut, Bakau, Serrekunda Central and Lamin.
Banjul, Serrekunda East and Bakau have won the super nawetan more than any other zones since the inception of the championship in the 90s.
Lamin have won the nawetan twice in 2002 and 2011, whilst Sukuta, Brikama and Serrekunda West won the super nawetan once in their history in 2005, 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Gunjur, Manjai, Brufut, Serrekunda Central and Barra, Essau and Mayamba are yet to taste the sweetness of the super nawetan trophy since its inception.
