Steve Biko FC on 15 December 2013 lost to Serrekunda East zonal team by 3 goals to 2 in a fund-raising encounter played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium as part of preparation for the team’s CAF Champions League.

Bekai Jagne opened the scoring for Serrekunda East zonal team in the 18th minute of the game from a close-range shot.

Four minutes later, Mustapha Sonko levelled the scoring for the GFA first division league champions from a fine tap after capitalising on Demba Janneh’s cross.

Demba Janneh made it 2-1 for Steve Biko in the 30th minute, with goalkeeper Baboucarr Saho giving away a cheap goal by allowing his weak effort to bobble and roll into his net giving Steve Biko the lead going into the break.

As soon as action resumed in the second period of the game, Madi Fatty scored a brace for Serrekunda East Zonal team in the 49th and 66th minutes to give his side the maximum three points.

Speaking to Pointsports shortly after the game, Abdoulie Bojang, head coach of Steve Biko, said the turnout of fans was not impressive but stated that they did not play a ‘bad game’ despite losing.

He noted that they did possess the ball as well as created chances but it was good they made mistakes, which they would work on.

He remarked that registration (for Steve Biko FC) has already been done for the CAF Champions League, noting that they now have to work with the players they have in hand.

Lie Bojang stated that tactic is the most important thing, adding that the defeat would help them work harder.

He added that they would also have test games with other zones before the commencement of the Champions League, as test games are “meant to know your weaknesses and strength”.
