Star GSM Communication held its 5th year anniversary on Wednesday at the Monument in Westfield.
Star
GSM Communication has emerged as one of the crowned bearers in the provision of
quality and affordable communication items like mobile phones for all
irrespective of their financial, political, social or tribal affiliations in
The Gambia.
The
theme for this year’s celebration is “The unity and love shown by the Gambian
people during a difficult moment of circumstance’’.
The
deputy manager of Star GSM Communication, Ebrima Saidy, said celebrating the
occasion was a major milestone for Star GSM Communication.
“Our
celebration is not so much a festivity, but a solemn occasion to pause and look
back at this five-year journey,” he said. “A moment to look ahead at the hills
and mountains we must still climb.”
He
heaped praises on the managing director of Star GSM, Lamin Kabba, for this
visionary leadership, steadfastness and tireless efforts in his quest to take
the company to where it is presently.
“We
salute men such as Mr Lamin Kabba and his staff, because the beginning for Star
GSM Communication was not easy but for his tenacity the company had kept on
going from height to height.
He
said Star GSM Communication also plans to venture into other areas to
contribute their quota towards national development in various ways such as the
awarding of scholarships and the creation of more job opportunities.
“We
have planned an exciting programme for you in the coming year that includes
partners in agencies and academia, to sponsor two hundred and fifty (250)
youths to further their academic career on different professional courses at
St. Stephen’s Institute of Technology, as well as create employment for youth,
and other gainful engagements.
He
acknowledged and thanked their partners and supporters such as Gamcel, Banjul
Breweries, Kansala Mineral Water, MMJ Mobile Shop, Tecno Sole Agent the Gambia,
the Gambia Armed Force and the Police Force, their staff and management, who
worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the event.
“Join
me in remembering and paying special tribute to our colleague the late Matarr
Jatta as well as our friends whom we honour in their memory such as late Kebba
Dibba (GRTS), the late Alh Mansour Njie (GRTS), the late Alh. Ismaila Manneh
(GRTS), the late Deyda Hydara (The Point Newspaper), the late Lalo Samateh
(GRTS) and the late Momodou Sanyang (GRTS) for their sincerity and service to
the Gambian nation,” he said.
Certificates
were also given to veteran and active journalists the like of Pap Saine,
Co-Publisher of The Point Newspaper, the late Deyda Hydara (The Point), Alh.
Modou Joof (GRTS), Sarjo Barrow, the late Alh. Kebba Dibba (GRTS), the late Lalo
Samateh (GRTS), the late Momodou Sanyang (GRTS), Alh. Ismaila Manneh (GRTS),
and Njie Baldeh of The Point.
Media
houses like The Point, Daily Observer and GRTS, Hilltop FM, Star FM and Foroyaa
newspaper were also certificated for their “tremendous and untiring effort”
towards realising national development.
