The Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia will stage the 3rd edition of its annual award on Saturday, 2 July 2011 at the Jerma Beach Hotel in Kololi.
The award is designed to honor outstanding sportsmen and women for their tireless contributions to the development and promotion of sports in the country.
This year’s award will coincide with the World Journalists Day and is expected to be graced by prominent international sports legends for the first time.
People can be calling or texting the number 7401 to cast in their votes for their favourites from the following nominees: Player of the year (local and international): Dawda Bah (HJK Helsinki, Finland), Lamin Sarjo Samateh (Samger) and Buba Jallow (Samger).
Coach of the year: Bonu Johnson, Amat Cham and Lamin Sarr. Referee of the year: Papa Bakary Gassama, Mawdo Jallow and Dickory Jawo.
Paralympics player of the year: Demba Jarju, Isatou Nyang and Malang Tamba. Tennis player of the year: Basuruwa Conteh, Seedy Bojang, Lala Sallah and Fatou Saho.
Sports personality of the year: Lamin King Colley, Beatrice Allen, Peter Gomez and Fr Joseph Gough. Best company in support of sport: Gamtel, Gamcel, Africell and Gambega.
Sports broadcaster of the year: Abdoulie Bah (West Coast Radio) previous winner, Amadou Wuyeh Manga (Unique Fm Radio), Alasan Mballow (Paradise Fm Radio), Pa Nderry Touray (KWT Radio) and Sarra Camara (Vibes FM).
Sportswriter of the year, last year’s winner Lamin Drammeh (The Point newspaper), Fatou Saho (Today newspaper), Cherno Omar Bobb (The Point newspaper), Baboucarr Camara (Sports Gambia.com), and Abdoulie Nget (Daily News).
