As part of the celebration marking SOS Day, which was recently celebrated in SOS Village in Basse, Upper River Region, children performed cultural programmmes, as well as sporting activities to pay tribute to Prof. Dr. Hermann Gmeiner, the founding father of SOS Children’s Village.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Hendry Mendy, the Director of SOS Children Village in Basse spoke on the importance of the day. He delved into the brief history of the village and the SOS school, as well as the projects under by the SOS Regional Office.
Deputising for Dr. Maimuna Taal of SOS Country Office, Mr. Ousainou Drammeh, the Principal of SOS Hermann Gmiener Senior Secondary School commended the people of the region for embracing the SOS village. He encouraged them to continue supporting the village and the school.
For his part, the Principal of the SOS school in Basse, Mr. Ismaila Njie commended the national office for their continuous support to his school and the children village in Basse. He also commended the regional authorities for also supporting them.
The residents of the area, for their parts, applauded the SOS Children Village for the achievements registered in Basse within its three years of operation.
