coach of Serekunda West Super Nawettan team, Modou Lamin Gassama has vowed to
clinch the Super Nawettan trophy after defeating the defending champions
Serekunda East by 2-0 in the quarterfinal of the Africell-sponsored Super
Nawettan tournament played at the Manjai-Kunda mini-stadium on Saturday.

Samba Saine opened the scoring for Serekunda West in the 84th minute while
Lamin Colley put in a comfortable victory (2-0) in the stoppage time of the
second half.
Coach
Gassama said they came into the game to end their marriage which means it’s a
must-win game to end defeat against Serekunda East. “We came into the game with
the intention of ending the marriage between us and Serekunda East which means
ending been defeated anytime they play Serekunda East,” he said.
According
to him, they have prepared very well for this encounter, adding that this is
one of their objectives in the tournament and now they are going all out for
the trophy.
For his part, Serekunda East coach, Baboucarr
Jarju expressed disappointment after been eliminated by their arch-rival
Serekunda West, while attributing their defeat as a result of miscommunication
between the defense lines.
“Playing
a game without scoring wasn’t something that is expected from them and we have
the chances but we didn’t capitalise on them which makes it very disappointing
for me,” he said.
According
to him, there is no problem resulting in their defeat, adding that this is
football is win and loss. He went to congratulate Serekunda West for their
victory and wish them good luck in the tournament.
