S/K Lower Basic School clinch U-15 Tourney title

Serekunda Lower Basic School in region 1 recently won the fourth edition of the under-15 football competition sponsored by a Britist national Bob Jones, a retired headmaster from Wales, and his Gambian friend Musa Mendy of educastion department.

The final was held at the Banjul KG5 Mini-stadium, and the tournament attracted 60 lower basic schools within Greater Banjul Area, Kombo North and Kombo Central.

The final game, played between Serrekunda Lower Basic School and Sukuta Lower Basic School, ended 1-nil in favour of Serrekunda Lower Basic School, who won last year’s trophy.

The third place battle was played between Muslim Madrassa of Banjul and Jamisa Lower Basic School of Brikama. Muslim Madrassa won the game 1-nil. Both matches attracted hundred of spectators including members of the Banjul Sports Committee (BSC).

According to Mr Mendy, four teams were provided with sets of kits and balls while the champions, Serrekunda Lower Basic School, were decorated with medals also.

Ansuman Trawally of Serrekunda Lower Basic School was crowned best player of the tournament with an award of a giant trophy.  He was also the winner of the leading goal-scorer award.

Banjul Sports Committee also received a ‘substitution board’ from Mr Jones, who thanked  Denbigh Town FC for supporting the Banjul tournament with football, kits and  Martin Parker T.Shirts as well as commended Thomas Cook Airlines for allowing extra baggages on flight for the kits.
