Sanna Nyassi sets Impact to weekend stalemate

Jul 9, 2013, 11:51 AM

The tackle on Sanna Nyassi in the 80th minute helped in giving Montreal Impact a late penalty to equalize against Chivas USA on Sunday.

Patrice Bernier converted a penalty kick into goal in its 17th game, which marked the end of the first half of the season.

The Impact remains atop the Eastern Conference standings with a one-point lead over Sporting Kansas City, having two games in hand, club website reported.

Nyassi was making his 12-league appearance last weekend this season with just a goal in his name.

The weekend saw a loss for Mamodou Danso’s Portland Timbers and a draw for Sainey Nyassi as the Timbers lost 1-0 to Columbus and DC United drew goalless with Colorado.

Meanwhile, none of the Gambian footballers playing at the MLS are not part of the Ten of the 11 spots on the MLS Fan XI announced on Sunday by goal.com

The Fan XI for the 2013 AT&T MLS All-Star Game was named with all but one spot - the AT&T ‘In the Game’ forward - filled in.

The USA was well represented in this year’s XI, with five current U.S. national team stars and Mike Magee all making it into the team.

Graham Zusi, Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez, Brad Davis and Chris Wondolowski join Magee, Thierry Henry, Raul Fernandez, Will Johnson and Aurélien Collin in making out the top players at their positions as voted on by the fans.

Sporting Kansas City is the only club in the league with more than one selection, with midfielder Zusi and defenders Besler and Collin giving the team three spots on the fan squad.
