Poetic X a young Gambian rap group in partnership with the Senegalese school has embarked on a Music Education and Development tour (MED tour) on 20th April 2013 at the Senegalese school in Kanifing.
The tour was in the form of three activities namely, a blood donor exercise in the morning, a conference and musical concert in the evening.
“The aim and objective of the MED tour is to participate in developing our country by initiating meaningful projects, and to also put out positive messages to the people,” Ousman Cham manager of Poetic X told Entertainment.
Cham said that education interests them a lot, and since they labeled themselves as the voice of the voiceless, they came up with this idea to organize a unique demonstration to create a cultural and economic day.
He said the MED tour would enable them to use their music to contribute to social development and sensitize the pupils on how to make positive changes.
“For this first edition, we are planning on doing activities within the school and the activities will be divided into three categories like blood donation to Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, a conference to discuss Music, Education and Development (MED), and a musical concert in the evening,” he said.
He noted that this project is here to solidify government actions towards education.
The MED tour will also enable the artistes to manifest their artistic works and Gambian culture in front of a strong delegation during the execution of the activities.
According to him, with the agreement of the Senegalese school staff, they decided to take a patriotic action by using part of the money generated from the pupils to help the school.
