The Gambia Football Association (GFA) has informed the media that accreditations are now opened for the CAF AFCON qualifier match involving The Gambia’s Scorpions and that of their Algerian counterparts scheduled to take place in Banjul on 29 February 2012.

According to the press release sent to this paper by Bakary B. Baldeh, media officer of the GFA who also signed the release, the same accreditations are also valid for all other subsequent AFCON qualifying matches involving The Gambia’s Scorpions for the 2013 Nations Cup finals to be staged in South Africa next year.

The full text of the press release follows:

“I write to inform you that accreditations are now opened to journalists wishing to cover the AFCON qualifying match between the Scorpions of The Gambia and Desert Foxes of Algeria on the 29th of February, 2012 in Banjul and by extension all other subsequent AFCON qualifiers involving The Gambia for 2013 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in South Africa next year. Please note that only ONE accreditation badge will be issued for the entire 2013 AFCON qualifiers.

Each media house will be provided THREE badges for Print and Electronic while online media outlets will only be allocated TWO. Selected journalists from media houses must submit their names and TWO passport photos on or before the 15th of February, 2012 at the GFA Secretariat in Kanifing during working hours.

Thank you for your cooperation and please do contact the Media Officer for further enquiries.”

It would be recalled that a two-man delegation from the Algeria Football Federation has visited the country ahead of the Preliminary Qualifiers of the big showdown the first leg of which will be played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. Their visit was meant to check on the facilities available for next month’s cracker.

The Gambia on the other hand have since some weeks ago appointed a local coach in the person of Peter Bonu Johnson mandated to lead the Scorpions in the upcoming qualifiers among other international outings for an initial period of one year.
