Man remanded for escaping from custody

One Momodou Camara, alias 2 PAC, was yesterday remanded in prison custody by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Magistrate Bojang.

The accused, Momodou Camara, was arraigned before the said court and charged with escaping from lawful custody, which he had admitted.

The case was then adjourned till 28 August 2013, for judgement and the accused was ordered to be remanded at the state prison pending the judgement date.

According to the facts of the case as narrated by Sgt Njie, it happened on 20 February 2013, at the Kanifing court when the accused escaped from court custody together with four other accused persons which involved a convicted prisoner from the children’s court.

They broke the burglar proof of the court’s window and were on the run until 12 August 2013, when he was apprehended by the Manjai police where he was cautioned and charged with the offence committed.

The charge sheet read in court stated that the accused, Momodou Camara, on 20 February 2013, at the Kanifing court, in the Kanifing Municipality, while under lawful custody of the police in the said court, managed to escape from such custody.
