The National Scorpions Fan Club on Saturday celebrated its 11th year of actively supporting the various national teams at the Independence Stadium Hostel in Bakau.
The celebrations, which were conducted under the theme “Excellence in Sports”, was part of the club’s role in sports development in the country.
Marcel Mendy, acting-secretary general of the Gambia Football Association (GFA) Normalisation Committee, said the cheering support to the national teams is not the work of only the national Scorpions’ Fan Club. “We should all support football,” he added.
The Scorpion’s Fan Club has contributed immensely to the development of Gambian football, he said, adding that the fan club has always been a motivating factor for the country’s national teams.
“If it were not the support of the Scorpion’s Fan Club, our football would not have reached this stage,” he noted. “There is unity in the fan club and they should hold on to this to see that the fan club does not die.”
He concluded by thanking and congratulating members of the fan club for their support to Gambian football.
Meanwhile, members of the club yesterday called a press conference in connection with their exclusion from the package of 50 Gambians who will be going to Azerbaijan to support the Gambia Women U-17 team. Details of that meeting will be published in our next edition.
