Man arraigned for escaping from lawful custody

A man called Ebrima Gassama was recently arraigned before Magistrate Babucarr Secka of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, charged with escaping from lawful custody.

The particulars of offence read that on 23 July 2011, at New Yundum Police Station, the accused, Ebrima Gassama, escaped from lawful custody.

Meanwhile, the police prosecutor, 2259 Ceesay, objected to bail for the accused person on the grounds that the accused had a case at the Yundum Police Station, where he had been given a bail and failed to report.

He said they later got information that the accused was standing trial for another matter at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court. After which the accused was arrested and brought to the Yundum Police Station where he escaped.

The court, however, granted the accused person a bail of D20,000 to be deposited with a Gambian surety, who should also deposit D20,000 the court.

The case was subsequently adjourned till 9 August 2011.
