The ward councillor of Latrikunda German ward held a sensitization meeting at the weekend ahead of the meningitis campaign scheduled to take place from 28 November to 4 December 2013 for ages between 1 and 29.

The sensitization meeting, held at the Ahmed Health Centre at Latrikunda German, brought together community members from all walks of life.

Speaking at the programme, ward councillor Jerreh Sanneh said the meeting was held to sensitise the locals about the upcoming national vaccination campaign.

They are doing the sensitization in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, he said, adding that as ward councillors, they were approached to educate their members about the campaign.

“There cannot be a meaningful wealth without good health,” he notes, while advising people to consider their health condition as vital.

Yama Janha, public health officer of Ahmed Health Centre, who spoke on the technical aspect of the campaign, said their main target is to inform the aforementioned age group targeted ahead of the campaign.

She disclosed that the signs and symptoms of the disease include stiffness, fever, headache and joint pain.

She also emphasised that one can be prevented from attracting the disease through vaccination, while revealing that it could be contacted through sneezing and coughing.
