Alhagie Dembo Santang Bojang, the Chief of Kombo Central in Brikama, has expressed optimism that the idea of constructing a fish market in Brikama will no doubt contribute to poverty alleviation in this country. He made this statement in an exclusive interview with our reporters recently at The Gambia College during a two day sensitization forum on the importance of the Brikama fish market to the local communities.
Chief Bojang said that the significance attached to this fish market cannot be over emphasized as it will generate a lot of revenue for the Gambian Government and also assist local communities, fishmonger among others. He added the fish-market if completed will be second to none in the country as it will create a lot of job opportunity for Gambians. Chief Bojang further challenged the community of Brikama to put aside their political differences and work together for the development of not only Brikama but the country at large. "We should all understand that the fish market is not for the Government of Japan but for us, all they have is to fund it and we should thus ensure that the project becomes a reality", he said.
He also commended the entire department of fisheries in collaboration with Sight Training Centre for organizing and sensitizing the communities of Kombo Central on the importance and management of this fish market.
