Kartong youth in Kombo South district in the Western Region, in collaboration with youth from Foni Jabang Kunda in the southern Senegalese province of Casamance, on Saturday embarked on a road rehabilitation exercise at the Allahim road on Kartong beach, which links Kartong and the southern Senegalese province of Cassamance.
Speaking to this reporter shortly after the exercise, the Ward Councillor of Kartong Ward, Lamin Jabang, said the rehabilitation exercise of the Allahim road was timely.
"The Gambia and Cassamance are the same; it was the Europeans who separated the two areas, which also share the same traditions and culture," he said.
He urged both countries to maintain the excellent relationship that exists between them.
Mr Jabang revealed that the rehabilitation exercise would make transportation easy for people and the movement of goods in the area.
"The rehabilitation exercise will be an annual event, and the relations between the two countries will move from strength to strength," he added.
He commended the youths in Kartong and Foni Jabang Kunda in Cassamance for their dedication, commitment and hard work in seeing the exercise through.
Ousman Sowe, a native of Kabajo in Jabang Kunda in the Cassamance region, underscored the importance of the Allahim road that links Kartong and Foni Jabang Kunda in Cassamance.
"This road enables people from The Gambia to travel to Casamance without any delay, and that it is the fastest road to Cassamance," he said.
