Indian
Institute of Hardware Technology (IIHT), Gambia limited, last Friday held its
first graduation of fifty-two students on various IT programmes, held at the
Ebunjan Theatre, last Friday.
The
diverse programme includes introduction to Information Technology, Diploma in
Network Security, Diploma in Office Automation, Diploma in Server
Administration and Professional Diploma
in Web Application Developer.
The
principle mission of IIHT Gambia limited is to equip youth with skills and
expertise in Information Technology to be able to immensely contribute towards
ensuring that the Gambia is an active player in this 21st century IT world.
Speaking
at the graduation, Halifa Sallah, National Assembly member for Serekunda West
said the partnership between India and The Gambia is a reflection of a
partnership that led to the transformation of the continents that were
dominated for the colonial rule.
He
said an institution cannot continue to be housed in a private premise. “It is
the duty of the state to come and support the institution, by ensuring it has
land to be able to build the structures that are necessary so that we can
provide the facilities that are necessary to give support to what we have seen
before us.”
Information
Minister, Ebrima Sillah said his ministry started the initiative to work with
their critical development partners within this country specially those in the
private sector and institutions.
He
said his ministry welcomes such ventures, assuring them that they will work and
support the team because the government alone cannot do everything.
Ousman
Bah, chief executive officer of IIHT said the graduates are ready for the work
market, saying they are employable and need not to be trained. He said young
people are taking the back-way to Europe for greener pastures because they do
not have hope in their own country.
