HG-Gambia Ltd over the weekend organized a daylong cleansing exercise along the coastal areas from the Banjul Ferry Terminal to the Brufut Fish Market.

The exercise attracted over three thousand participants and stakeholders drawn from the Banjul City Council, Kanifing Municipal Council and the Brikama Area Council.

The organizer, HG-Gambia Ltd, a fire and safety equipment company, which has been operating for almost 14 years in the country, said it wants to contribute its quota to national development, by ensuring the cleanliness of the coastal areas for the health and safety of the country.

HG-Gambia CEO and proprietor, Habib L.B. Gitteh, said: “if you are a health and safety company, you need to contribute to the health and safety of the nation and its people.”

HG-Gambia needed to set an example so that people would know that they are not only there to sell health and safety equipment, but also the fact that the health and safety of the nation was of concern to them, he added.

They decided to commence the cleansing exercise from the tourism development area, as the tourism industry contributes immensely to the socio-economic development of the nation.

Gitteh also asserted that most of the stakeholders at the hotel industry are their customers.

He thanked the Kanifing Municipal Council, the West Coast Region, the Gambia Tourism Board, among others, as well as all the security services for their invaluable work.

He further appealed for continued maintenance of clean beaches, and to discourage waste dumping.

Gitteh also urged people to clean the beaches at the end of every picnic or other functions, which he described as a contribution to national development.
