Barely a few months after the dissolution of the former executive committee of the Gambia Handball Association (GHA) by the National Sports Council as a result of the association’s involvement in a road accident on their way to a handball competition in Mali, the association over the weekend went to polls to elect new executive to run the affairs of the association for another tenure of office.
Sunday was another day in the annals of handball in the country as the club representatives gathered at the Independence Stadium in Bakau to elect new executive members to replace outgoing members that were tasked with the responsibility of running the affairs of handball in The Gambia.
Sheriff Sanyang has once again been offered the opportunity to run the affairs of handball for another tenure in office.
Haruma Cham was elected as the association’s Secretary-General after occupying the position unopposed, while the assistant Secretary-General position was awarded to Martin Johnsy with Bai Abdoulie Cham to serve as the Treasurer of the association.
Bai Cham as he is widely called who doubles as the President of the National Scorpions Fan Club would be assisted by Chimban Fye and Gibou Sohna, to be responsible for the position of the Public Relations Officer of the association.
Meanwhile, four other individuals were elected to serve as members of the association, namely Lamin Kejera, Sheikh Omar Faye, Alagie Darboe, representing school sports, while Neneh Ndure who remains the only female member of the association was absorbed to work closely with the rest of the team to ensure the smooth running of the association.
The congress comes following the dissolution of the former executive committee of the Gambia Handball Association, and the incoming executive members who were just injected into various positions are fully aware of the controversy surrounding the association. It is their responsibility to do everything possible to uplift the standards of handball.
