Gunjur Upper Basic School Inter-house Athletics Competition set for tomorrow

Schools in the country are bracing up for the annual Gambia Secondary School Sports Association National inter-schools athletics competition slated for later this year at the country’s biggest football arena - the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The much-awaited 2012 Gunjur Upper Basic School inter-house athletics competition is scheduled for tomorrow, 21 January 2012 at the school’s football field.

The four houses - last year’s champions Foday Sillah, Kwame, Cabral and former champions Samory - are vying for the championship title in various events, which has attracted spectators from Gunjur and its satellite areas.

The school uses the annual inter-house athletics competition to scout out good athletes that will represent the school in the annual West Coast Region Upper Basic inter-schools `athletics competition to be held in Brikama and the national athletics championship final to be hosted at the Independence Stadium in Bakau later this year.

Gunjur Upper Basic School won the annual West Coast Region Upper Basic Schools inter-schools athletics title four consecutive times in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 and won the national athletics championship title in 2010.
