Gunjur, Sukuta Out Bakau, Serrekunda West Sails To Semis

Two Western Region sides: Gunjur and Sukuta are out of the ongoing Baby Muhammed Jammeh's Perpetual Zonal Championship, following their 1-1 drew in the final Group A encounter, at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on Monday 30th November 2009.

Both sides put up a spectacular performance and created many scoring attempts in each other's goal mouth, but failed to capitalise on their numerous scoring opportunities.

On resumption, Gunjur side were more determined and made some spectacular goal attempts, but their efforts paid dividend in the 67th minute of the game when substitute and winger Bakary Daffeh, alias Kano netted from a brilliant header.

Sukuta who lost to Serrekunda West 1-0 in their opening game drew 0-0 with Bakau in their second game came all out and mounted heavy pressure on Gunjur's defence line, and as a result cancelled the tally through striker Nfansu Bojang in the 69th minute of the game after penetrating Gunjur's defence line to make it 1-1.

In a similar development, Serrekunda West and the defending champions Bakau are through to the semi-finals following 1-1 draw in their final Group A game, at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium. Serrekunda West opened the score through Mamut Saine in the 6th minute of the game.

Moments later, Bakau leveled the score through Assan Jatta in the 40th minute of the game as he registered his second goal of the tournament.

Dawda Sambou of Serrekunda West was sent off in the 68th minute of the game after being shown a second bookable for diving, while Demba Sanyang of Bakau was also sent off after being shown a direct red card in the 73rd minute of the game.

Bakau and Serrekunda West are on top of Group A with each 5 points from three games, followed by Gunjur with 2 points from three games and Sukuta lies at the bottom of the group with 2 points from three games.
