Gunjur Sports Committee on Saturday held its annual general congress at the Gunjur Day Care Centre.

The daylong annual general congress was graced by all the teams affiliated with Gunjur Sports Committee and the new teams.

In his welcoming remarks, Lamin Darboe alias Darboe C, said congress is a constitutional mandate that should be held before the new nawettan season gets underway.

Darboe C hailed the teams for attending the congress.

Ebrima Jammeh alias Fabou, in his remarks, reiterated the fact that congress is a constitutional requirement prior to the summer biggest football fiesta kickoff.

Jammeh stated that sixteen teams took part in last year’s nawettan, which was won by Dunes FC, and Passamai FC won the knockout journey.

Jammeh added that last year’s nawettan was marred by violence, saying Gunjur’s performance in the Super nawetan has continued with disappointment after losing eventually to champions Serrekunda West on penalties in the quarterfinal.

Jammeh further revealed that Gunjur United have participated in the West Coast Regional third division and the team finished second spot in the league with 35 points after winning eleven games, drew two and lost four.

Jammeh applauded Gunjur United FC’s manager Sulayman Sambou, coach Bubacarr Kakai Bojang and his technical staff for their job well done.

Jammeh also lauded Unity Express, Foday Karl Darboe and all those contributing towards the development of football in Gunjur.
