Guaranty Trust Bank gain ground in their title defence of the Central Bank Governor‘s football tournament after a 2-1 win over co-favorites Access Bank.
Saturday’s victory has taken GTB’s unbeaten run to 10 games having won the 2012 edition without a defeat.
In what was described as one of the best encounters so far, the Orange Boys opened the score in the 14th minute courtesy of team captain Wally Sanyang.
Access Bank responded in the 19th minute with a brilliant free kick by Modou Sanyang and held on for the rest of the period.
In Friday’s quarterfinal, EcoBank beat Trust Bank in penalty shootout to set a semifinal clash with so-called tournament minors BSIC who also beat Central Bank on penalties to get to the semis.
All 12 commercial banks and the Central Bank of The Gambia participated in the tournament staged in remembrance of the late Governor Jatta.
