Guaranty Trust Bank Gambia Limited, one of the leading banks in the country, has appointed a new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Olufemi Omotoso replaces Mr. Lekan Sanusi who has been deployed to Ghana as the Managing Director of GTBank Ghana after over 5 years of stay at the helm of GTBank Gambia.

Mr. Omotoso has an enviable mix of experience, dynamism and versatility in addition to a remarkable track record in the financial services industry.

“As a result, the Board believes that he has the capacity to add immense value to the Bank and has committed to offer him all the necessary support he needs to succeed in his new position.

“His appointment has also been approved by the Central Bank of The Gambia,” a statement from the Corporate Affairs department of the Bank said yesterday.

Prior to his appointment, Omotoso was an Executive Director in charge of Business Development with Guaranty Trust Bank (Liberia) Ltd in the last two and half years, which he  pioneered.

He has been credited for overseeing the expansion of GTBank Liberia from a one branch bank to six branches over a very short period of time.

Mr. Omotoso joined Guaranty Trust Bank Plc in 1996, after a brief stint with Intercontinental Bank Nigeria where he served in the Corporate Banking Department in 1995.

He subsequently rose through the ranks to the position of Group Head, Commercial Banking, Lagos Island overseeing 14 Commercial Banking Business Teams.

His 16 years banking experience cuts across most aspects of the banking business, including commercial banking, marketing, corporate planning and strategy, credit and operations.

Mr. Omotoso holds both a bachelor’s degree and Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. He has also attended several management courses at some of the world’s leading business schools, including Cranfield University, UK and Harvard University, USA.
