Gambia
Ports Authority on Friday defeated relegation threatened Samger 1-0 in their
re-scheduled fixtures at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium to better their
status in the 2016-2017 Gambia Football Federation domestic division one
league.
Defending
league champions Gambia Ports Authority are languishing in the country’s top
flight so far this season after their exit from the continent’s top and second
tier football club competitions, the CAF Champions league and Confederations
Cup by AS Vita Club of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Al-Hilal of Sudan
respectively.
The
ferry boys gripped the vital three points against the academy boys after
netting one goal in the game to better their status in the league.
The
Academy boys Samger are languishing bottom-place in the top flight league and
needed a win against Gambia Ports Authority to close gap on teams above them in
the league but surrendered maximum to the ferry boys to remain bottom-place in
the league.
Samger
are still rooted bottom-place in the league with 13 points from eighteen league
matches and Gambia Ports Authority are three places above safety with 21 points
in sixteen league matches.
