GPA has finally succeeded in squeezing victory for the first time over the weekend, in week four of The Gambia Cricket Association National Cricket League.

They defeated Wallidan on Saturday by 4 wickets after scoring 174 runs in 32.3 overs  for 6 wickets at the July 22nd Square in Banjul. The victory has given them three points and they climb to fourth position in the 5 team league.

Aniru Conteh, best batsman for GPA, recorded 267 runs while Melville Williams, who emerged as the best bowler during the match, claimed 4 overs, 3 wickets and 28 runs with an average of 7.

Despite taking the batting first, Wallidan only managed to pull 173 runs in 30 overs. Wallidan are lying at the bottom of the table and are yet to pick a single point in the league. This is contrary to last Wednesday's report carried by this paper stating that they had three points.

The Veterans, who took on the Jewel of India on Sunday, have now leveled points with the later on six points. They made it by winning the game on 23 runs.

The Veterans batted first and scored 152 runs in 24.3 overs with Alfred Crooks registering the highest scores of 33 runs for his side.

The President of The Gambia Cricket Association, Johnny Gomez, was the best bowler for the Veterans after scoring 20 runs 3 wickets in 5 overs with an average of 4.

The Jewel of India grabbed 129 runs in 24.5 overs with best batsman and bowler Karan Bhajat and Musa Sillah scoring 26 and 35 runs, 6 overs, 4 wickets with and average of 5.83 respectively.

As the race for the title gains momentum, the gap between the five participating teams is now a tiny margin as the Veterans now have an edge on the Jewel of India over the mantle of leaders over the number of runs scored.

Asia II and GPA are at three points followed by bottom placed Wallidan.
