The Secretary General of the Gambia National Olympic Committee, Omar Njie Barrow, has officially tendered his resignation to the Executive Bureau of the national Olympic committee, Pointsport was reliably informed.
Mr. Barrow who was elected into office in June last year, was said to have written his resignation letter two weeks ago, stating that he no longer wants to serve in the GNOC.
According to the acting President of the Gambia National Olympic Committee, Beatrice Allen, upon receiving his resignation letter, the Bureau held an emergency meeting to approve his resignation. She said another meeting was later held to select a candidate for his replacement.
"Three potential candidates were later selected from the national associations that are Olympic sports. After a thorough screening, Peter Prom, the president of the Gambian Table Tennis was selected for the position.
Peter's candidature will be forwarded during the General Assembly of the GNOC later this year for approval as well as the issue of the GNOC president," Ms Allen explained.
