The Gambia Football Federation on Friday 8 January 2016 received at its Secretariat Roman Bucher and Beatrice Yama nationals from Switzerland who presented sets of football jerseys as philanthropic gesture to the football federation.
Roman and Beatrice were accompanied to the Football House by Mustapha Alex Da Costa who expressed thanks to the GFF leadership for receiving them.
He said the reason for their visit to the GFF and to Football House is to present jerseys to the GFF and to establish partnership with the Federation.
Da Costa said lots of options could be tapped from the relationship. He added that their preference is to donate the items to the grassroots sector.
In receiving the items, the GFF President Lamin Kabba Bajo first thanked Alex Da Costa for the positive foresight in identifying the GFF to be the beneficiary of the items.
He said the ceremony is a very important moment for the GFF as football development is the main pre occupation of his Executive Committee.
He said football is the main sport in the country and it is played everywhere in The Gambia. “Having presented these items to us is very big and we would therefore make the best use of it. We are development oriented and Football development cannot go without the grassroots.”
He said the prospect of venturing into a relationship with the donors is vital for the GFF and he urged the partners to help link the GFF and other potential partners in Switzerland.
Other speakers at the ceremony included GFF Executive Member, Bakary K. Jammeh, who hailed Alex Da Costa as ‘a man of processes and result oriented’.
He said the gesture is in line with the GFF’s vision to excel in football.
Mr Jammeh described the jerseys as way of motivation to the youth sector. He thanked the donors for the partnership and urged them to continue with the interdependence.
GFF General Secretary Abass Bah also thanked the donors for their great gesture.
He said the GFF values every support to help in the development of Gambian football.
He thanked Alex Da Costa for facilitating the partnership. GFF grassroots coordinator Ebrima Nyassi also thanked the donors for the items and assured them of its judicious use to the youth sector as preferred.
