FA and Super Cup champions Gamtel FC defeated Gunjur Zonal team 1-0 in a tightly contested friendly game played on Friday at the Gunjur’s biggest football arena - Nyamina Football Field.
The game was part of Gamtel’s preparations for their semi-final game against Rangers International of Nigeria in the ongoing WAFU Club competition to be hosted in Togo from 8 to 13 December 2011, whilst Gunjur Zonal team took on the challenge as part of their preparations for the forthcoming Gambia Football Association Super Nawetan tournament to be held later this year.
Gamtel opened the score through striker Malamin Singateh in the 15th minute of the game from penalty spot after a Gunjur defender handled the ball inside the eighteen-yard box to give his side the lead, which eventually proved to be the winner for the telecommunications giants, thus ending the first period 1-0 in favour of Gamtel.
As actions resumed in the second period, Gunjur Zonal team brought in several fresh legs but they could not break through Gamtel’s solid defence line and thus the game ended 1-0 in favour of Gamtel FC at the expense of their opponents Gunjur.
