The Gambia Women National U-17 football team’s qualification to the final stage of the FIFA Women U-17 World Cup qualifiers has been rewarded with presentation of football items to the team by GIFT Foundation.

The team recently returned to Banjul on the back of a heroic performance that saw them book a place in the final and decisive round of the qualifying campaign.

The presentation, held at the GFA secretariat in Kanifing at the weekend, included the following items: 100 beach balls and 40 pairs of sport shoes.

Kebba Masaneh Ceesay, technical director of the Gambia Football Association (GFA), who spoke at the occasion on behalf of the GFA, said GIFT Foundation has been supporting grassroots football as well as providing assistance to the GFA over the years.

Ceesay added that GIFT’s support is a way of complementing the effort of the GFA in improving football at the grassroots level.

Saul Sowe, president of GIFT Foundation (formerly GIFT Academy), said his newly registered foundation has placed special attention and priority on women football.

Sowe, a Gambian-based in Norway, also made it categorically clear that GIFT Foundation will focus mainly on helping female football and has vowed to establish a female academy in the country soon.

Two officials of GIFT Foundation in the names of Sheriff Bojang and Baboucarr Sowe also spoke at the occasion.

In attendance at the weekend’s presentation were officials of GIFT Foundation, the GFA and some members of the GFA women national football team that recently returned home with their heads held high.
